A climbing club for 9 to 14 year olds. Sessions run Monday and Tuesday evenings from 5pm to 6.30pm. N4 Juniors follow the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) syllabus.
A climbing club for 15 to 17 years old climbers. Sessions run Monday evenings from 6.45pm to 8.15pm.
The National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS)
NICAS is designed to introduce new and young climbers to climbing on artificial climbing walls in a series of five levels of increasing technical skill and knowledge. The scheme is administered by the Association of British Climbing Walls Training Trust (ABCTT) and is endorsed by the British Mountaineering Council. The scheme provides structure and motivates new climbers to develop their skills so that they get the most out of their climbing as well and have their achievements recognised.
Aims of scheme:
to learn climbing rope-work and how to use equipment safely
to develop climbing movement skills and improve levels of ability
to develop risk assessment and management skills in the sport
to develop teamwork and trust with climbing partners
Enrolment into all N4 Climbing Clubs is per term. Fees are payable in advance as per the schedule below.
2013/14 N4 Junior/Senior dates and costs
Autumn term: 9/10 Sept to 21/22 Oct (£140) then 4/5 Nov to 16/17 Dec, (£140) Spring term: 6/7 Jan to 10/11 Feb (£120) then 24/25 Feb to 31 Mar/1 Apr, (£120) Summer term: 28/29 Apr to 19/20 May (£80) then 2/3 Jun to 14/15 Jul, (£140)
£5 NICAS Part 1 registration fee (including a 16 page booklet and any certificates achieved) for Levels 1 and 2.
£9 NICAS Part 2 registration fee (including a binder with a 16 page log book and any certificates achieved) for Levels 3 and 4.
2014 N4 Mini Club term dates/costs
Spring term (£90): 11 January to 8 February and 1 March to 29 March
Summer term (£90): 26 April to 17 May and 7 June to 19 July

Monday 5th April 12pm to 6pm - Castle Garden Fete
Explore the Castle’s open garden and meet local projects and practitioners who will be hosting activities for everyone. Plus cob fired pizza and drinks on sale from the Castle's roundhouse from mid-afternoon.
Did you know that much of the garden has been built by volunteers? Want to get involved?
• Garden warm ups. Get a good warm up before you climb by ferrying wheelbarrows of material. We’ll give you tea and cake in exchange! • Weekend workdays. Learn new skills and meet new people. We’ll provide the training, equipment and lunch. • Garden volunteer programme. Mondays - Herbs. Thursdays - Fruit and Veg.
