Castle Climbing Route Setting

An exciting opportunity has opened to become…

Castle’s TRAINEE ROUTE SETTER

The Castle Route setting department is looking for a keen learner with little or no route setting experience but strong enthusiasm for the sport of climbing to join our team as a part-time trainee route setter on a three-year learning programme. You will work 20-28h a week and will hold a number of duties and responsibilities within the route setting department while learning how to route set to a high standard.

While it’s pretty clear we’re keen on reducing our environmental impact, from our rigorous recycling system to the permaculture garden, there’s more than meets the eye under the surface of the centre.

In addition to our Wassail event in the garden on Saturday 11th February, we'll be running activities around the centre in support of The Climate Coalition's Show The Love campaign.

Find out more about this year's Wassail, including children's craft activities here

Do you care about the environment and the effects of climate change? Wear your green heart on your sleeve; share and celebrate the outdoor places that you are inspired by and want to help to conserve.

Nick Quinn, Northdown Orchard

“I am a medicinal horticulturalist, not a herbalist”, grins Nick Quinn, the creator of the Castle’s range of lotions, potions, balms, body washes and of course garden teas. Having been part of the Castle garden since the beginning, Nick has developed this organic range which started with a personal mission.

Dear Climbers,

Happy new year to you all! It’s nice to see so many of you back in climbing and training hard for the season ahead.

2016 was yet another busy year for The Castle as we continue to grow and develop; striving to continuously improve the facilities for the benefit of you, the customer. In 2016 we increased our team of staff; welcoming our new CEO, Duncan Howard; a new Centre Manager, Lisa Farris; increased staff levels on the front-line and in both the Maintenance and HR departments to respond to the continuing demand and growth of the centre.

An opportunity to be part of our lively reception team at The Castle has arisen. We are looking for a receptionist to work on our busy front desk around 3- 18 hours a week. Flexibility is essential as the shifts are varied and cover weekdays, evenings and some weekends.
A friendly open manner, enthusiastic attitude towards excellent customer service and a high standard of written and spoken English is essential. The ideal candidate should be Computer literate and have previous experience in customer service roles.
An interest in climbing and sustainability is an advantage.

So we’ve dragged ourselves into the 21st Century and developed a mobile phone app for The Castle!

Join us in the garden to take a bit of time to rest and reflect, and enjoy a bit of seasonal festivity and magic.

We'll be serving hot spiced apple juice and mince pies by a roaring fire.

Craft Fair

This is a perfect time to grab some hand-crafted Xmas gifts! In the Roundhouse you'll find a host of craft stalls selling unique gifts for that perfect xmas present;
