A climbing club for 9 to 14 year olds.  Castle Juniors follow the National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS) syllabus. The Club is suitable for novices and experienced climbers and provides young people with the opportunity to experience climbing and develop skills, coordination and balance through bouldering, top roping, leading and abseiling; under the supervision of experienced, qualified instructors.

No prior climbing experience is required.
The sessions run for one and a half hours with strict ratio of six young people to one instructor.

Juniors Session Times

Monday evenings from 5.30pm to 7pm
Tuesday evenings from 5.30 pm to 7pm
Wednesday evenings from 4.15pm to 5.45pm and 6pm to 7.30pm

Thursday evenings from 4.15pm to 5.45pm and 6pm to 7.30pm

Friday evenings from 4.15pm to 5.45pm and 6pm to 7.30pm

The National Indoor Climbing Award Scheme (NICAS)
NICAS is designed to introduce new and young climbers to climbing on artificial climbing walls in a series of five levels of increasing technical skill and knowledge. The scheme is administered by the Association of British Climbing Walls Training Trust (ABCTT) and is endorsed by the British Mountaineering Council. The scheme provides structure and motivates new climbers to develop their skills so that they get the most out of their climbing as well and have their achievements recognised.

Aims of scheme:
• to learn climbing rope-work and how to use equipment safely
• to develop climbing movement skills and improve levels of ability
• to develop risk assessment and management skills in the sport
• to develop teamwork and trust with climbing partners
• to develop an deeper understanding of the sport
• to provide a record of personal achievement
• to point the way to future pathways in climbing

Enrolment

Enrolment into all Castle Climbing Clubs is per term. The availability each term is very restricted due to priority booking being given to those who are already enrolled in the Castle Climbing Programme. Any spaces still available after a given priority booking deadline will be advertised on our website with online booking on a first-come first-served basis. Due to the high demand, we regret that we do not offer a waiting list and all spaces are bookable online only.

To be able to confirm a place for your child you will have to make payment for a full term at the time of booking. The term fee covers all costs, equipment hire, entrance and NICAS registration, logbooks and assessments.
