Learn how to get the most from auto belay routes, how to use them safely and tips for training.
Ideal for boulderers wanting to open up autobelay routes, climbers of any ability who don’t have a regular belay partner, and those looking for endurance training ideas.
Learning to use the auto belays safely is essential - and a valuable skill! We’ve got over 40 autobelay routes at the Castle, so useful for people who want to climb ropes but don’t always have a partner to belay them.
Susie (one of our instructors)
An auto belay is a mechanical device attached to the top of a route that automatically takes up slack as you ascend and gently lowers you to the ground if you let go or fall.
By the end of the course you should feel competent to climb with auto belays in a controlled and informed manner. You’ll learn how to put on a harness and safely attach to the auto belay, climbing with the auto belay, descending, fall practice and some ideas for training.
