Note: Open to all climbers with multipitch/sea cliff experience as a leader at any grade with understanding of building belays & equalising anchors and how to belay from above A minimum of 2 participants are required in order for this course to run. Participants must be able to attend both sessions.

I hope you never have to deal with an emergency when you climb, but it’s definitely a good thing to be prepared. We get a lot of climbers booking this as a refresher to keep their skills up.

Course outcome

This is a 2-day course split into 2 x 5-hour sessions.

This course is not a qualification, but it does cover various advanced techniques for safely dealing with unforeseen circumstances and accidents.

You’ll learn advanced rope work.

Tying off a belay plate and an Italian Hitch.

Ascending a rope or prusiking.

Creating an ‘auto-block’ or progress capture system.

Escaping the belay system both in-reach and out of reach.

Basic hoists – Assisted Hoist, Unassisted Hoist and mechanical advantage.

Abseil rescues.

Calling out mountain rescue or coastguard.
