Independent young climbers can climb unsupervised at The Castle from age 14.

16-17 year olds: can come and boulder with no previous experience however, they must complete an U18 assessment for roped climbing.
14-15 year olds: must complete an U18 assessment before roped climbing or bouldering at The Castle.
The Under 18 assessment is a gateway for experienced young climbers to attend the Castle unsupervised.
14/15 year olds assessment:
We offer 3 types of assessment:
Lead Assessment – climbers must be able to boulder safely, top-rope climb and belay, lead climb and belay.
Top-rope Assessment – climbers must be able to boulder safely, top-rope climb and belay.
Bouldering Assessment – climbers must be able to boulder safely.
16/17 year olds assessment:

We have a membership for young climbers aged 14/17 years. Climb any time of the day, 7 days a week for just £50 p/m.
Available to all those 14/15 year olds who have passed a castle assessment and 16/17 years who are assessed for top rope and lead climbing or registered for bouldering only.
Join the Youth Social, The Castle’s twice monthly, FREE drop in climbing session for climbers ages 14-17 years looking to climb with other young climbers, facilitated by Castle Staff.
Why come along? Have you outgrown the kids climbing club but aren’t quite ready to climb outside of a group? Maybe you're the only one of your friends that climbs. The Teen Social offers the opportunity to climb with likeminded people your own age.
